Lady Jackets pick-up wins

A winning team quickly becomes the target for opponents who are looking to nail down a season-changing win. The Lady Jacket volleyball squad from Hayesville Middle School might as well have a bullseye on their jerseys thanks to their winning ways. Hayesville managed to add to their victory total with a 2-1 win over Martins Creek Tuesday, Sept. 24. The Lady Jackets kept a stranglehold on the momentum monster Thursday, Sept. 26 by besting Murphy 2-1. 

Martins Creek put up a fight and had the Lady Jackets in a hole after a 26-24 win in set one. Hayesville came roaring back in set two and evened the match with a 25-17 win. In the third and deciding set, the Lady Jackets finished off the Hornets in a close 15-11 battle. 

Emotions were high on Thursday when the Lady Bulldogs came to town. Hayesville’s quick start resulted in 1-0 lead after winning the first set 25-18. Wanting to end the match as quick as possible, the Lady Jackets began their march to 25 in the second set but Murphy refused to be put away easy. The Lady Bulldogs made a run of their own and forced extra play. Ultimately, Hayesville prevaild with a 26-24 set win to secure their second match-victory of the week. 

The Lady Jackets will make the long trip to Rosman Thursday, Oct. 3 to face the Lady Tigers. On Tuesday, Oct. Hayesville will again be on the road Tuesday, Oct. 8 as they battle Swain County. Both matches are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
