Hayesville’s young softball team put 15 runs on the scoreboard as they endured four games in five days but were unable to secure their second win of the season.

The Lady Yellow Jackets, 1-15, best showing came in an 8-7 loss against visiting Andrews on Thursday.

Most recently, on Monday, Hayesville dropped a doubleheader to Copper Basin, 8-2 and 12-6.

The Lady Jackets had opportunities in both games, especially in the nightcap in which Hayesville outhit the hosts, 11-10. Unfortunately, the Black-and-Gold couldn’t overcome 2 home runs by Riley Hall.

The Lady Jackets didn’t help themselves with wild pitches and passed balls that allowed the Cougars to score.

Hayesville did a good job of putting the ball in play in the middle innings, only one strikeout, but couldn’t get base runners home.

Callie Long opened the third inning with a solid single to left center but was erased on a fielder’s choice.

Mallory Peck led off the fourth with an infield single but was out when Gracelynn Anderson reached on a fielder’s choice. Copper Basin then turned a double play to kill the rally.

In the fifth, the first batter, Danielle Anderson, rapped a single to right center. She advanced to second on a ground out, but got no further, being thrown out at third when Long singled up the middle.

A 10-0 loss to Robbinsville was sandwiched between the Andrews game and the Copper Basin twin-bill.

The Yellow Jackets conclude regular-season play Friday when Smoky Mountain visits.
