Hayesville’s girls softball team broke into the win column in a big way by whipping Andrews, 26-13, on the Wildcats diamond last Thursday.

“We maintained a large lead until late in game,” Hayesville Coach Marissa Peck said. “We saw improvements in base running and confidence in the batters box.”

The confidence at the plate was manifest by 14 hits by seven Lady Jackets. Hayesville also benefited from 15 walks, three hit batters and seven Andrews errors.

Hayesville was also confident on the base paths. The Black-and-Gold pilfered nine bases. Daylyn Murray was the top thief with four. Lillie McClure had three steals.

Hayesville led 4-0 after the first inning, 8-1 after two and 12-1 after three. The Smoky Mountain Conference foes traded blows the rest of the way with Hayesville plating seven in the fourth inning and seven more in the fifth while Andrews put up back-to-back six spots.

Jasmine Brooks led the Hayesville hit parade by going 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs. She also collected the decision by striking out seven in three innings.

Gracelynn Anderson also produced with a capital P. The third baseman with the big bat cracked three hits, scored five times and drove in two teammates.

Mallory Peck had two hits, three RBIs and two runs. Raylyn Taylor had two hits, two RBIs and four runs.

McClure scored four runs and Murrary crossed the plate twice.

Swain 12, Hayesville 0

Tuesday was a different story.

“We didn't play well; gave up another big inning,” Coach Peck stated. “I’m not pleased with numerous things but I am looking to see more energy, enthusiasm and effort forthcoming.”

Hayesville’s hopes of a home victory were scuttled by a nine run outburst by Swain in the second inning.

The Yellow Jackets failed to get any hits in the loss.
