The Hayesville Lady wrestlers traveled to Enka High School on Monday, Jan. 15 to compete in the Enka Girl’’s Invitational and JV Men's Tournament. The tournament had more than 14 schools entered in the event with girls coming from all over to compete.
Amyna Denton in the 120 pound weight class defeated two opponents by pin very quickly in the first period of both matches and received a forfeit from a challenger who failed to appear giving her first place.
Lilliani Denton weighed in the 132 pound weight class and defeated all three challengers by pin.
This feat earned her fourth straight gold medal at the last four events.
Lakota Shelton wrestled in the 138 pound weight class and defeated her two opponents from Pisgah by way of pin. The first match ended after Shelton slammed her challenger to the mat to win gold.
Katie Miller wrestled in the 152 pound weight class and defeated all of her challengers by pin in under one minute granting her the gold.
The Lady Jackets led by their captain Lilliani also tied for first place as a team against the rest of the teams gathered. This is the second tournament team win which is impressive considering they only have four women on the team out of a possible 12.
The Lady Jacket wrestlers now prepare for the SMC Tournament, Lady State Duels and regionals events soon to come.
