The varsity Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball team had mixed results as they faced two local opponents. Hayesville hosted their rival Murphy Thursday, Sept. 26 in a match that saw the Lady Bulldogs get the 3-0 win. The Lady Jackets managed to bounce back Monday Sept. 30 against Union County in The Hive. It was a battle but Hayesville came away with a 3-2 win.
Murphy wasted no time in establishing dominance and outran the Lady Jackets to the 25-point mark in the first set, winning 25-18. Hayesville had even less success in the second set, losing 25-16. On the verge of defeat, the Lady Jackets showed a bit of life in the third set but came up just short, losing 25-23 and giving Murphy the match victory.
The Lady Panthers stunned Jacket Nation in the first set of the match Monday. Union County seemed to be unstoppable and took a 1-0 match advantage with a 25-12 set win. The script flipped in set two as Hayesville dominated to even things up with a 25-8 win. Set three also went in the Lady Jackets’ favor with the home team winning 25-23. Refusing to accept defeat, Union Country grabbed the momentum in set four with a 25-23 victory of their own. The fifth and deciding set was a nail biter for both fan bases. Hayesville played tough when it mattered most to get the match win with a 15-13 set victory.
Hayesville now gets set for a pair of Smoky Mountain Conference opponents as they travel to Rosman Thursday, Oct. 3 and then to Swain County Tuesday, Oct. 8. Both matches are set for 6 p.m.
