On Friday, Dec. 8 Hayesville Schools hosted for the first time a Women's Wrestling Sanctioned NCHSAA duel against the Swains Women's Wrestling team. Three girls from Hayesville were involved in this wrestling duel. Amyna Denton in the 120 pound weight class. Lilli Denton in the 132 pound weight class and Lakota Star Shelton in the 145 pound weight class. Amyna had the honor of being the first to wrestle but receiving a forfeit. After gaining a forfeit she wanted to changed the girl in the weight class above her. Amyna wrestled the girl in the 126 weight class and subdued her into a pin to win the first official wrestling match at Hayesville. Lilli was up next and it was a match for redemption as the lady wrestler from swain Elyaha Cogdill had previously won a match at a recent tournament at Swain. This time Lilli was more prepared and focused and easily took her opponent down and won by a major decision of 13-2 by points. Shelton was next to battle against a previous state qualifier from Swain. Shelton held her own for a while making improvements from previous matches.

The lady wrestlers then went to Union County on Tuesday, Dec. 12 to wrestler the Union Wrestlers. Hayesville Lady's came back victorious with a team score of 24-12. Amyna and Lilli getting pins and Shelton and Katie Miller getting forfeits.

Finally on Monday, Dec. 18 the Lady Wrestlers went to Cherokee to battle it out.

The Hayesville Lady Wrestlers gained another win as a team with a score of 24-12. The final match came down to Shelton. If she won her match the Women's team would win as a team. Star dominated her opponent in the first round by pinning her challenger in less than 30 seconds. Amyna also pinned her opponent in under a minute and with Lilli and Miller getting forfeits.

All of the Hayesville Lady Wrestlers have winning records. Amyna is 10-2; Lilli is 6-2; Shelton is 8-2 and Miller is 3-2 for the season.
