Middle school baseball splits the week with Robbinsville

Even though Hayesville Yellow Jackets collected seven hits to Robbinsville Middle School's five, they still fell 11-7 as time expired on Tuesday, April 23 in Robbinsville. Caden McClure led the Hayesville Yellow Jackets with two hits. The Jackets tied the game in the top of the third thanks to an error and a hit by a pitch. Robbinsville came back taking the lead 4-2 when Camden Taylor came up to bat lining out scoring one and a ground out by Brady Gerdes scoring another run making the game tied in the top of the fifth. Robbinsville Middle School flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 10-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a passed ball that drove in two. Henry Wadsworth opened the game for the Jackets. The lefty allowed zero hits and three runs, one earned, over two innings, striking out two and walking four. Gerdes, Matthew Peck, McClure, Tucker Moore and Taylor each drove in one run for the Jackets. Rhett Sellers stole three bases.

The Yellow Jackets hosted the Black Knights on Thursday April 25. Taylor drove in four runs on two hits to lead past Robbinsville 10-0. Taylor singled in the third inning, scoring two runs and singled in the second inning, scoring one.The Jackets won thanks in part to six runs in the first inning. An error scored one run, Moore singled, scoring two runs, Jack Bethel singled, scoring one run, Sellers drew a walk, scoring one run and Micah Moss singled, scoring one run.

The Jackets added one run in the second. Taylor singled, making the score 7-0.

The Jackets extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Peck and Taylor. Moss opened the game for the Jackets only surrendering two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Peck, Moss, and Taylor each collected two hits. Peck stole two bases.
