The Hayesville Middle School Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams competed in the Smoky Mountain Conference Championship at Swain County on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The cool, crisp air combined with a flat course resulted in speedy times for both teams.
The HMS boys team finished in second place as conference runners up for the third year in a row. The leaders of the team did not disappoint. Eli Cheeks finished in fifth place with a HMS boys record time of 11:13. Porter Hood finished in seventh place with a time of 11:21. Both received All-Conference honors.
Garrison Boyer: 13th place, 11:51 and Evan Burks: 14th place, 11:52 were All-Conference Honorable Mention. Bronc Woody: 17th place, 12:03; Colton Crawford: 20th place, 12:16 and Brandon Rivera: 38th place, 13:31 completed the team.
The HMS girls team finished fourth after a much improved season. Makenna Moss: 12:38, upheld her standing as a top runner in the conference with a second place finish.
Leah Black: 19th place, 14:23; Annie Godfrey: 20th place, 14:24; Alaina Greenstone: 22nd place, 14:26; Shelby Scarborough: 23rd place, 14:29; Lily Gordon: 25th place, 14:58 and Allie Godfrey: 28th place, 15:17 rounded out the line-up.
