On Wednesday, Dec. 4 the Hayesville Middle School Yellow Jackets girls played a non-conference game against the Towns County Indians at home. The Yellow Jacket girls dominated the game with a score of 48 to 8. This was their second meeting this season, with the first game being away resulting in a 36-6 victory for Hayesville. The girls are led by head coach Tammy Dills and assist coach Brooke Reynolds.
In the first quarter, Hayesville scored 22 points, led by Candace King being the lead scorer of the game with a total of 10 points. Lucy Trout followed her up by scoring 8 points. Towns County only scored 2 points.
The second quarter was not as fast-moving for Hayesville as the first was. Hayesville sank 10 points but kept up a good defense, not allowing Towns to add points to the board.
The game went into the half with the score of 32-2 Yellow Jackets leading. Dills went to the bench and gave significant amounts of playing time to all her players. Even though Hayesville was ahead in scoring, Towns was able to add an additional 6 points during the third quarter with Hayesville only scoring 4.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Ayden Margo grabbed 6 points for Hayesville and Lynleigh Fuller scored 4 points. To wrap up the game Taylyn Young was on the mark with two foul shots resulting in the final score.
This win put the girls in a record of 5 to 3. When Dills was asked about the game she said, “The team showed growth from last time playing. This is important going into the second half of the season. During the first quarter we played high intense basketball and put up 22 points.”
Heading into the second half of the season we will see how the girls continue.
