The Lady Jacket volleyball team from Hayesville Middle School has been able to get the best of any opponent willing to take the court. That run of victories came to an end Wednesday, Dec. 1 against Cherokee. The match, delayed by snow 23 hours due to snow, was a tough one. Eventually, the visiting Lady Braves managed to get the 2-1 win.
It was evident early on the two conference foes were evenly matched. Points were exchanged like early Christmas gifts in the opening set. It took extra play but Cherokee took the set 26-24 to put the Lady Jackets in a must-win situation. Hayesville answered in a big way.
Backs to the wall and facing defeat, the Lady Jackets dominated the second set with a 25-14 victory. The third and deciding set was another nail-biter. The Lady Braves closed in on the magic number 15 rather quickly, but Hayesville kept fighting. The home team made it a 1 point deficit at 14-13 before Cherokee found their final point to take the match 2-1.
Hayesville will try to add a one to the win column at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 on the road against Hiwassee Dam/ Ranger. At 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, the squad will defend The Hive against Robbinsville.
