The season ended in a big way for the Hayesville Middle School cross country team. Runners clad in black and Vegas gold competed in the Smoky Mountain Conference championship meet in Cherokee Wednesday, Oct. 16. Usually when a team is made up of young athletes, fans and coaches alike say, “The future is bright.” For the HMS Lady Yellow Jackets, the future is now. A team made up entirely of sixth graders celebrated the end of their season with a SMC championship in the girls division. For the boys, Hayesville had a solid finish of fourth place.
