No. 12 Young Harris College got goals from four different scorers as the Mountain Lions recorded a 4-1 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer victory over their Blood Mountain rivals the University of North Georgia Wednesday (Sept. 22) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 6-0-0 overall and to 2-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Nighthawks fell to 3-3-0 and 0-3-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 25) when they host Lander University in a 3 p.m. PBC match. Either Lander or Young Harris has won the Peach Belt title since 2012.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at the 4:16 mark. Edoardo Righetti took a direct kick from outside the box and it careened off the crossbar to Mikkel Goling, who knocked in the rebound into the right corner for his fourth strike of 2021.
- UNG tied the match at 1 with less that five minutes left before halftime on Michael Walsh's header off a Santiago Gimenez cross.
- The Mountain Lions took the lead at 2-1 with 15 seconds before intermission on Jamie Lapsley's second goal of the campaign. Goling sent the ball across to Sondre Olsen at the left post. Olsen then passed the ball back to Lapsley, who knocked in the back of the net.
- Saad Maziane's sixth goal of the season at the 54:13 mark off a Righetti assist gave the Mountain Lions a 3-1 lead.
- YHC added its final goal 10 minutes later on a Pato Padilla header off a pass sent into the box from Tony Barry.
- The Mountain Lions led 13-6 (8-1 on goal) in shots, while the Nighthawks held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
- Eduardo D'Avino earned the win in net for Young Harris.
