On Saturday, Jan. 6 the Hayesville women's wrestling team traveled to Cherokee for the annual Osley B. Saunooke Tournament. There were about 10 teams in total who traveled to this event.

Amyna Denton was in the 120 pound weight class and defeated every opponent in the second period by pins earning her spot at the top of the podium earning gold.

Lilliani Denton was in the 130 pound weight class and also subdued all opposing wrestlers in the second period by way of pins. Lilliani received first place and the gold medal. Lilliani has now received back to back championships at the last two tournaments.

Lakota Star Shelton wrestled in the 138 pound weight class where she dominated all opponents by pin in the second periods. Shelton has now earned a three-peat by earning gold at the last three tournaments. Shelton is a first year wrestler but has been excelled on the mat. She currently has the best record on the team and earned the girls MVP at this tournament.

Katie Miller wrestled at the 154 pound weight class this tournament and has worked hard to improve her skills and earned second place. Miller successfully had a few take downs, reversals and escapes.

Overall the Lady Jackets earned first place as a team. This was accomplished with only four girls on the team where 12 is allowed.
