Hayesville Middle School Jackets were supposed to play at home on Tuesday, March 26, but due to a rain out they were unable to. However, that did not stop the HMS Jackets from taking care of business when they traveled to Hiawassee Dam/Ranger on Thursday, March 28.
Hayesville Yellow Jackets scored 17 runs in the first inning, thanks to the following players who were able to get a hit or draw a walk that led to the runs. Matthew Peck, Caden McClure, Jack Bethel, Brady Gerdes, Henry Wadsworth, Micah Moss and Rhett Sellers all contributed equally to those 17 runs in the first innings. The Jackets kept the momentum going by extending their lead with five more runs in the top of the third by Porter Hood, Peck, Bethel and Bronc Woody.
Peck started on the hill for the Hayesville Yellow Jackets. The righty surrendered zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Wadsworth threw one inning of zero-run ball for the Yellow Jackets in relief. The left-handed pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out three and walking two. The final score against HDR was 22-0.
The Jackets host the Braves at home at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Come out and support the Hayesville Middle School Jackets.
