The Lady Jackets soccer team had a busy week which included a loss to the Highlanders, rebounding with a win over Cherokee and culminating with a 9-0 loss to South Stokes in NCHSAA 1A tournament .

On Thursday, May 5, the Lady Jackets traveled to Highlands where they fell short the win 4-1. Scoring the single goal for the Jackets was freshman Lauren Gottlieb No. 20 and Star Shelton had the assist.

“This was a good game for us. Highlands is a strong team, but we played them well and fought till the end scoring with about one minute left,” said coach Amanda Thompson. “I was really proud of how our bench supported the players on the field. Their positivity was infectious, and I think it helped play a close game.”

On Monday, May 9, Hayesville hosted the Cherokee Lady Braves and shook them up with a 1-0 victory for the Lady Jackets. It was a day of celebration that included the sneak up from behind victory and recognition of senior players.

The wait for a goal seemed to be slow in the beginning, but senior Cecelia Jones No. 11 came through with the winning score for the Jackets.

On Monday, May 16, the Lady Jackets traveled to Walnut Cove, N.C. to take on South in the 2022 NCHSAA Women’s Soccer Championship 1A Tournament. Hayesville went in with a conference record of 3-7; South Stokes held a 10-2 conference record.

The Lady Jackets were in form, but faced a disappointing return home with a 9-0 loss to  South Stokes.
