Nationals Series schedule heats up this week with a visit to Tri County Racetrack in Brasstown. The third leg of the mini-series will take place this Friday night, Oct. 9 as the 17th Annual FK Rod Ends ‘Tarheel 50’ will boast a $10,000 payday for the ground-pounding Super Late Models. The biggest event of the year at Tri County will also feature the 602 Thunder Series, Street Stocks and Front Wheel Drives on the undercard.
Brandon Overton, of Evans, Georgia, is the defending winner of the storied race, winning the 2019 ‘Tarheel 50” in dominating fashion over Kyle Hardy, Dale McDowell, Donald McIntosh and Kenny Collins. Other past ‘Tarheel 50’ winners include Billy Moyer, Shane Clanton, Jonathan Davenport, Dennis Franklin, Kayne Hickman, Dale McDowell, Casey Roberts, Shawn Chastain and David Payne.
Speaking of David Payne, he secured himself a guaranteed starting spot in the 53- lap ‘Tarheel 50’ headliner by virtue of his ‘Tarheel TuneUp’ victory at the quartermile bullring on Sept. 26. Pit gates will swing open for competitors at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 while the grandstands will start allowing patrons into the facility at 4 p.m. The driver’s meeting will get underway at 7 p.m. with racing action slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
