The 6th annual Bethel-Guidry Golf Tournament raised $27,000 for college scholarships.

Scholarships are available to graduating seniors in Clay and Towns counties with applications available through guidance counselors’ offices. Play took place at Mountain Harbour Golf Club. “The tournament, put on by the great parishioners of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, is a September staple at the Harbour,” said a pro shop spokesman.

This year’s winning four-person team included Jerry Stark, Dick Welton, Jim Ackerly and Jack Binswanger; with the second place team including David Wagener, Anthony Sparrow, Phil Klenke and Mark Campbell.

Former educators and title sponsors Georgia Bethel and Turner Guidry commented, “We are so deeply moved by the support within our communities of Clay and Towns counties in their support of this scholarship. Through their donations and this annual golf tournament we have raised money to continue providing two scholarships for one student each from Hayesville and Towns County high schools. These are awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional character through serving others. The scholarships are for four years at $2,000 per year with an additional $2,000 upon graduation from college. We gratefully thank everyone who has helped make this happen across the past six years.”
