Hayesville’s JV Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team has managed to get a pair of wins over some tough com- petition. Hayesville went on the road Friday, Jan. 24 and picked up a conference win over Robbinsville by the final of 41-21. The Lady Jackets followed that performance with a home win over Franklin, 24-21.
It was a dominating win for Hayesville against the Lady Knights. Hayesville came out strong, out scoring their opponent 13-2 in the first quarter. The offensive display continued in the second as well as stellar defense from the Lady Jackets. By the time the quarter ended, Hayesville held a solid 28-7 lead at the break. The second half was more of the same with the Lady Jackets pulling away for the 41-21 win.
It was a different story when Hayesville hosted Franklin. The Lady Jackets found themselves in a tight, low-scoring battle from the get go.
The teams matched each other score for score in the first quarter, standing equal at 6-6. In the second, the Lady Panthers managed to gain control with 9 points. Hayesville’s 5 was enough to keep them close but Franklin possessed a 15-11 lead at halftime.
Quarter number three was more evidence that the teams were evenly matched. Defenses held strong on each end of the floor as a total of 8 points were scored in the quarter, split equally between both teams.
The difference came in the fourth as the Lady Jackets saved their best quarter for last. While the production wasn’t record-breaking, Hayesville’s 8 points were impressive compared to Franklin’s and the Lady Jackets left their home floor celebrating the 24-21 win.
A trip to Swain County awaits the team Friday, Jan. 31 followed by a home game against Hiwassee Dam Tuesday, Feb. 4. Fans can expect a 4 p.m. start to each game.
