Racing fans filed through the Tri County Racetrack ticket gates Thursday, May 27 for a kickoff to the Memorial Day weekend.

The event saw each division compete for $1,000 winners prize as part of the annual Memorial Day Championship.

In the main event of the night, the Limited/Crate Late Model Drivers battled door-to-door around the quarter-mile clay oval.

Danny Ledford and Daniel Wilson earned front row starting spots with the two fastest qualifying times earlier in the night. The pair brought the field up to speed and under the starter’s stand. In turn one, Wilson was able to use the momentum from the high line to take over the top spot to lead lap one. Wilson’s No. 12 continued to lead as the laps clicked by, but Ledford kept his Longhorn within striking distance.

As the leaders closed in on lap traffic, Wilson made slight contact with a slower car on the exit of turn four which opened the door for Ledford. The Warne driver took advantage and put his No. 4 out front. Ledford has had a fast car throughout the 2021 season, but has also suffered bad luck. Ledford seemed determine to outrun his competition and the bad luck as he worked his way by slower cars. While trying to lap the No. 55 of Kip Cochran, Ledford drifted up, making contact with Cochran. The contact, while significant, was not enough to allow challengers to overtake Ledford and he held on to get the win. Wilson settled for second and Jason Deal finished third.
