Varsity baseball out of playoffs

The Yellow Jacket varsity baseball team lost last week’s home playoff game against the South Stanley Rowdy Rebel Bulls from Norwood, N.C. by a score of 3-1. This was game one of the NCHSAA Baseball Championships 1-A Tournament held Tuesday, May 10.

The Bulls scored quickly in the beginning of the first inning,  adding 2 runs and grabbing a 2-1 lead, however, the Jackets didn’t give up.

Hayesville’s Mason Cook added the run and Dakota Matheson was credited with the RBI. Pitcher Braxton Cherry had an outstanding performance from the pitchers’ mound, striking out six Rebel Bulls.

It wasn’t until the fourth inning that anyone crossed home plate again. The Rebel Bulls scored 1 run in the fourth and their lead stood at 3-1 which gave them the victory.

The Jackets end their season with an 8-4 conference record. Season record runs and RBI are as follows: Cade Denton, 11 runs; 13 RBIs; Kyle Lunsford, 16 runs, 15 RBI; Mike Mauney, 8 runs, 11 RBIs; Braxton Cherry, 18 runs, 10 RBIs; Dakota Matheson, 18 runs 10 RBIs; Tanner Cheeks, 1 run; Brooks, 2 runs, 2 RBIs; Dawson DeVane, 3 runs, 2 RBIs; Avery Leatherwood, 15 runs, 20 RBIs; Mason Cook, 21 runs, 3 RBIs; Cade Curuso, 1 run; Chance Hughes, 7 runs, 8 RBIs; Wayne Barter, 1 RBI; Kyle Shaheen, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Miguel Espinal, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Tate Roberts, 8 runs, 5 RBIs; Boyer, 11 runs, 10 RBIs.
