Western Carolina women’s tennis completed play in its first fall tournament of the season competing in the Emily McNall Classic this weekend hosted by UNC Asheville.
The doubles tandem of Antonella Benavides and Jordyn King were 3-0 in doubles play while freshman Miray Konar won all three of her singles matches.
On Saturday, the tandem of Benavides and King picked up a 7-5 doubles win against the host Bulldogs doubles team.
In the doubles and singles contest against Montreat, to close out Saturday’s play, the Catamounts got a pair of wins in doubles and four in singles to win 5-2. Anna Uljanov teamed with Kata Foldeak to win 6-3 in doubles and the Catamounts also got a 6-0 doubles win with King and Benavides. In singles play, Uljanov (6-3, 6-7, 10-3), Benavides (6-1, 6-2), Miray Konar (6-2, 6-1), and Hoda Habib (6-2, 6-1) each picked up victories.
In Sunday’s portion of the tournament, King and Benavides got a win in doubles against UNCA winning 7-5 and Konar won in singles play 6-1, 6-2.
WCU took a win over Presbyterian 4-2 taking four of the singles matches played. King and Benavides won their third-straight doubles of the weekend 6-4 while Uljanov (6-0, 3-6, 10-8), Jacy Smith (6-4, 3-6, 10-1), Benavides (6-0, 6-1) and Konar (6-4, 6-4) picked up victories in singles play.
Western Carolina will host the Catamount Fall Classic Oct. 2-3 at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
