After a month’s break for America’s 250th and the Festival on the Square, Clay County Communities Revitalization Association’s Friday Summer Concert Series resumes this Friday, July 24, when award-winning southern roots and blues band, Andy Johnson’s Roofdog, comes to the historic Hayesville square.
Band-leader Andy Johnson on slide guitar and vocals, with Trey Dunnahoo on bass, Ethan Hamlin on keyboards and James Lengel on drums, will bring their signature Georgia sound – dubbed “swamp soul” – to the western Carolina mountains.
Johnson is a two-time winner of the Atlanta Blues Challenge and has released two albums – “Help Yourself” in 2021 and Roofdog in 2023. The band is excitedly awaiting the upcoming release of a third album, “Roofdog - Live at Capricorn” on Friday, Aug. 14.
There are just three concerts left this season, so put this on your “must-do” list. Friday Summer Concerts are free to the public thanks to sponsors, supporters and donations to the “red-buckets” passed on concert nights. The music gets underway at 7 p.m. but come early and come hungry to support our local food vendors: Papa Kash, Dragon Ass Smoked BBQ and the American Legion. They will start serving at 6 p.m. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Friday concerts are always children and leashed-dog friendly and are wheelchair accessible. Bring your family and friends and comfy lawn chairs or blankets to the Historic Courthouse/Beal Center courtyard. Parking is available on nearby streets and parking lots. Too far to walk?
