Hayesville Students Selected for All District Honor Band

In mid-January, students from all over the Western District of North Carolina auditioned for the chance to be a part of the All District Honor Band. Students were adjudicated based on their performance of scales and a solo that was selected for them based on their instrument.

State Supreme Court rejects candidate filing request from sheriffs, DAs, clerks

A pair of orders from the N.C. Supreme Court Monday officially rejected requests from the state's sheriffs, district attorneys, and Superior Court clerks to reopen candidate filing as soon as possible.
Groups representing those three sets of elected officials went to court on Dec. 29.

Cooper, Stein outline plan for N.C. Supreme Court to bypass lawmakers on redistricting

Gov. Roy Cooper and N.C. Attorney General Josh Stein want the state Supreme Court to throw out new statewide election maps. They've outlined a plan that would help the court draw new maps without legislative input.
Cooper and Stein filed a motion and friend-of-the-court brief late Friday.
