Rec sports sign-ups

Sign-ups for fall sports at the Clay County Recreation Department are underway. Sign-ups will continue until Saturday, August 14 at the Recreation Center.  Available sports: Flag football: ages 5-13, $60 fee. Soccer: ages 4-12, $60 fee. Cross country: ages 6-12, $25 fee.

Festival dubbed ‘Best ever’

Clouds threatened most of the weekend, but for the most part the sun won out and crowds flocked to the weekend’s Festival on the Square in Hayesville. The 40th year turned out to be what many vendors and attendees described as “one of the best,” for crowd size and vendor sales.

Deputy seriously injured in scuffle

The situation easily could have ended with a fatality. A Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy is expected to undergo surgery this week to repair a severed knee tendon suffered during an attack by a local resident. Sgt.

Filing still open for town council, mayor

The Town of Hayesville will have a new mayor-elect in  November. After overseeing the town since 2013, incumbent Hayesville Mayor Harry Baughn has decided not to run for reelection as mayor; however he is seeking a seat on the board.

Millions of Remote Workers eye new jobs if Forced Back to Office

As the pandemic wanes, many companies are asking their employees to return to the office. However, a majority of remote U.S. workers who went virtual during the pandemic have no desire to return to the office and may move to a new job if work from home policies are revoked.
