Hinton Rural Life Center awarded People in Need grant

Hinton Rural Life Center of Hayesville, has been awarded a People in Need grant of $16,745 from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. The funds will be used for Hinton’s WNC Rural Poverty Project, which will create a poverty simulation specific to the unique aspects of rural life.

DA preparing for cancer treatments

District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch on Monday announced that she has breast cancer and is undergoing medical treatment. “I wanted to publicly share the information to raise awareness about the importance of early detection,” Welch said.

When Karen Rogers was first diagnosed with COVID-19 in April, she never imagined her symptoms would persist seven months later. “I am still coughing, have limited taste, the driest skin ever and my hair is falling out like it never has,” the Hiawassee woman said this weekend.
