Drive-thru Halloween event slated

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has established a community service for local youth called Cops for Kids, according to a press release from Sheriff Bobby Deese. One of its first events will launch Halloween night.

Returning to normal?

Clay County Schools younger students may get to return to classrooms full time within a couple of weeks. A press release from Gov. Roy Cooper’s office explained that COVID-19 trends had stabilized and the state is continuing to see low virus spread in school settings.

Hinton Center posts hours for firewood lot

The Firewood Ministry Lot at Hinton Rural Life Center is open for local residents who use wood as the primary source for heating their homes but are not able to afford it. Beginning in October, Hinton’s firewood lot will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.
