Festival on the Square is this weekend

Every year on the second weekend of July, one of the most anticipated events in the area arrives. This coming weekend, the 45th Festival on the Square brings music, food, arts and crafts and a great time for smiles and just general visiting of friends.

BOE approves budget resolutions and amendments

Clay County Schools Board of Education met June 29 with an agenda of recognition, reports and action taken by the board approving the Summary of Budget Resolutions and Amendments for the school fiscal year presented by Chief Financial Officer Shelley Hollingsworth.

Sheriff Ken Henderson arrested on new charges

During lunchtime on Thursday, July 2, suspended Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson turned himself in for booking at the Towns County Jail on brand new felony charges brought by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was released shortly afterward on a $30,000 bond.

The shoulder pads are back. The polyester is out of the closet. Somewhere, a vintage office blouse is getting a second chance at stardom. At Hayesville’s Peacock Performing Arts Center, costumers for "9 to 5: The Musical" are stitching together the 70's — one outfit at a time.

One the area’s most popular events will happen in downtown Hayesville on the second weekend in July. The 45th Festival on the Square will bring visitors and locals together for a weekend of entertainment, barbeque, unique arts, crafts booths and more.

Ongoing investigation leads to multiple felony charges

A months long investigation has so far led to the arrest of two men who have been charged for travelling to Clay County to engage in the sexual misconduct with a local minor female. Brandon Juarez Flores, 19, of Tuckasegee, N.C.

Construction of Hayesville Intermediate School is on schedule

Superintendent Melissa Godfrey called a construction meeting for the new Hayesville Intermediate School on Friday, June 26. Work on the school is progressing and completion scheduled for the end of this year.

Youth group continues tradition of faith and service at Cross Connection Camp

For another summer, members of First Hayesville United Methodist Church’s youth group traveled to Wilkes County to take part in Cross Connection Camp, a week dedicated to serving others, strengthening faith and building lifelong friendships.
