N.C. budget includes $100 million teacher pay supplement for lower-wealth counties

The Tar Heel State’s budget for the new biennium includes $100 million in supplemental pay for public school teachers in some of the state’s smallest, poorest counties.
The supplemental pay is valued at up to $4,250 per teacher but the exact value differs significantly across counties.

N.C. Supreme Court blocks candidate filing, delays all primary elections to May

The N.C. Supreme Court has jumped into the state's legal battle over new election maps. The high court has shut down candidate filing and delayed all state primary elections until May 17.
The high court wants a trial court to rule on the merits of two ongoing redistricting lawsuits by Jan. 11.
