High demand for homes is still driving the real estate market, with buyers lined up for existing homes and others building them. Construction costs are up and so are prices. If you are looking for a home, should you consider an older home? It might be a good deal or it might not.

Ballot tracking available again for absentee-by-mail voters

Absentee-by-mail voters in North Carolina will be able to track the status of their ballots for the May 17 statewide primary election. The State Board of Elections is again offering a service called BallotTrax, which was first available in the 2020 general election.

Democrats elect delegates at convention

Saturday, March 19 the Clay County Democratic Party held its annual county convention. The Hayesville High School cafeteria provided a wonderful setting to enjoy barbecue and delicious side dishes before we settled down to the business of the day.

The Clay County Republican Party held their 2022 Precinct and County Conventions on Thursday, March 17 at the Historic Clay County Courthouse/Beal Center. Delegates were elected to the County, District and State Conventions, which will all be live again this year.

Enrollment period for marketplace health insurance

A new Special Enrollment Period on the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace has opened for consumers who have projected income of at least 100 percent of the federal poverty level but are at or below the 150 percent of the federal poverty level.

At least three days a week, Hayesville’s skies are invaded by single propeller planes, jets, flying wings, drones and more. If you haven’t noticed the impromptu air shows, it’s because you haven’t been looking in the right place.

From a clerical robe to combat boots

Fort Hood, Texas may seem like a long way from Clay County. Yet Rev. Bryan Wilson and his family will soon be leaving Hickory Stand and Oak Forest United Methodist Churches to call the Texas town home.  Wilson has moved farther.
