Varsity Jackets compete In 1A West Regional

Hayesville well represented with two firsts,

several placing in top 10

The Jackets competed in the NCHSAA 1A West Regionals on Saturday, May 14 at East Burk High School in Connelly Springs, N.C. and fared well with Hayesville athletes taking top honors.

Jake McTaggart finished in first place in the discus throwing 161’ 2” and second place in the shot-put throwing 44’ 4”. Emma Shook also finished in first place in the 300-meter hurdles. McTaggart and Shook placed No. 1  for Hayesville High School. Other finishes are as follows:

Boys:

200-meter dash: Chandler Dempsey, eighth place.

1600-meter run: Tommy Urbanluk, ninth place; Landon Hughes, 10th place.

3200-meter run: Landon Hughes, ninth place.

110-meter hurdles: Jacob Jones, 11th place.

4x100 meter relay: Hayesville, ninth place.

4x400 meter relay: Hayesville, 10th place.

4x800 meter relay: Hayesville, fifth place.

High jump: Kevin Kleckner, sixth place; Isaac Chandler, 10th place.

Long jump: Logan Caldwell, 12th place; Kevin Kleckner, 14th place.

Triple jump: Logan Caldwell, 13th place.

Discus: Jake McTaggart, first place.

Shot put: Jake McTaggart, second place; Taylor McClure, fourth place.

Girl’s:

400-meter dash: Lila Roberts, 15th place.

800-meter run: Marley Espinal, 13th place.

100-meter hurdles: Emma Shook, third place.

300-meter hurdles: Emma Shook, first place.

4x400 meter relay: Hayesville, fourth place.

4x800 meter relay: Hayesville, fourth place.

Discus: Lily Trout, ninth place.

Shot put: Lily Trout, fourth place.
