The Hayesville Lady Wrestlers went to compete in the Western Carolina Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The tournament took place at Swain County High School with Hayesville, Murphy, Andrews, Cherokee, Swain and Robbinsville.

The women's team only had two in attendance this tournament. Lilliani Denton at the 126 pound weight class who came in second place and bringing her record to 30-3 for the regular season. Katie Miller at 165 pound weight class wrestled and came in fourth. The Lady wrestlers now prepare for Women's Regionals which is composed of 1A-4A schools combined. Denton will be competing in the 132 pound weight class and is ranked No. 1 in the region.

The Hayesville Men's wrestling team went to Swain High School Tuesday, Jan. 23 to compete in the Western Carolina Wrestling Conference Tournament.

The conference consist of teams from Hayesville, Swain, Robbinsville, Andrews, Murphy and Cherokee. For the first time in multiple seasons the HHS Yellow Jackets have brought home third place in the conference wrestling tournament and also third place in conference overall. The Hive carried back a whole lot of hardware in the form of individual first, second and third place medals.

• Raul Rivera-Prieto, 175 pound weight class, first place.

• Patrick Denton, 150 pound weight class, second place.

• Andrew Reynolds, 157 pound weight class, second place.

• Caden Gordon, 165 weight class, second place.

• Jameson Dawson, 126 pound weight class, third place.

• Will Denton, 132 pound weight class, third place.

• Lakota Patterson, 190 pound weight class, third place.

• Rayland Martinez, 285 pound weight class, third place.

• Landen Gibson, 138 pound weight class, fourth place.

Gordon is currently ranked No. 15 and Martinez ranked No. 16 in the state.

The men's team are now preparing to go to regionals Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10 at Robbinsville.
