By Lorrie Ross Staff Writer   Many people need a little help sometimes, while other people may be the ones offering helping hands. In the mountain communities around Clay County, there are lots of groups providing opportunities to help and be helped.

Board of Commissioners agenda for May 1

The Clay County Board of Commissioners will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 pm. Thursday, May 1 in the multi-purpose room located at 261 Courthouse Drive.  The tentative agenda is as follows: • Prayer. • Pledge of Allegiance. • Public comment. • Reappointment to Tri-County Community College.

New 911 center opening

By Becky Long Publisher   More than four years in the making, Clay County’s 911 Center does not disappoint. On Friday, the center opening was officially celebrated. Director Kevin Sellers and his nine member full-time crew relocated from their previously cramped headquarters on Dec. 18, 2024.

Rising waters impacts homes

By Lorrie Ross Staff Writer   Flooded houses, roads covered with water and a washed-out bridge were part of the storm system which came to town earlier this week. After a few months of severe drought conditions, western North Carolina finally received a drenching rain Sunday and into Monday.
