Over-correcting while driving can be dangerous

Over-correcting a vehicle is a dangerous yet very common mistake made by many drivers, especially teenagers or new drivers. Overcorrection refers to a motorist grabbing the steering wheel and abruptly turning it in the opposite direction from where the car is going.

Patrons encouraged to get new library cards

Nantahala Regional Library will soon begin using a new Integrated Library System to manage their collection. This system, NC Cardinal, will allow library users to not only access regional resources but will also allow library users to reserve items statewide.

New Peacock comedy makes audience and God laugh

Fidget pad demonstration hosted by quilters' guild

From 1-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, the Heart 2 Heart outreach group of the Misty Mountain Quilters Guild will be demonstrating how to create fidget pads. Barbara O’Brien will share her method for making these placemat-sized activity centers with a variety of visual and tactile items.

Clay County will soon have more options when it comes to shopping. Two chain discount stores are expected to open by summer and a convenience store with ties to the 1960s is reopening in a new two-story building.

15 arrested in "Operation Ice Mtn."

A  nearly three months long undercover investigation conducted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office culminated Feb. 15 in a slew of arrests and drug charges including trafficking in heroin and methamphetamine.
A youth mission team from Woodland United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, SC, completed a wheelchair ramp last summer as part of Hinton Rural Life Center’s 10 weeks of summer mission outreach, which works with volunteer teams to provide Safe & Healthy Home Repairs needed by residents in Clay, Cherokee, and Towns counties.
