North Carolina Residents Spend the 13th Most on Groceries

The current run of inflation in the U.S. economy is putting pressure on household finances nationwide. The second half of 2021 saw several consecutive months of higher than usual price increases, reaching an overall 6.8% rate of inflation from November 2020 to November 2021.

State Supreme Court rejects candidate filing request from sheriffs, DAs, clerks

A pair of orders from the N.C. Supreme Court Monday officially rejected requests from the state's sheriffs, district attorneys, and Superior Court clerks to reopen candidate filing as soon as possible. Groups representing those three sets of elected officials went to court on Dec. 29.

Revised Nantahala and Pisgah forest plan released

The National Forests in North Carolina has released the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests’ revised forest plan and the revision process has entered the final phase, a 60-day objection period for parties who submitted substantive comments during development of the plan.

North Carolina sets record for new business creation

North Carolina set another record for new business creation in 2021.  Roughly 178,300 new businesses were legally created across the state last year, up 40% from the year before — which was itself a record, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
