Retirements shuffle roles in leadership

Clay County Schools announced two key administration promotions on Tuesday on the heels of the board of education's monthly meeting. Stacey Overlin, the current assistant principal of Hayesville High School, will replace retiring principal Jim Saltz on April 1.

Clinic nixed for now

A local vaccination clinic canceled due to supply chain disruption won't be rescheduled, but those extra shots will be administered in a different format. The day-long clinic had been scheduled for last Saturday, Feb.

Jackets ready for round one

  Hayesville’s varsity Yellow Jacket basketball team is set for post-season action. The Jackets will host Winston-Salem Prep at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 in round one of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A state championship tournament.

Scoring improves for Lady Jackets

The varsity Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team got back in the win column Tuesday, Feb. 9 with a 58-23 road victory over Andrews. On Friday, Feb. 12, Hayesville traveled to Cherokee and after putting up a valiant effort, came up short to the Lady Braves 59-58.

The Hayesville Yellow Jackets have clinched their third straight Smoky Mountain Conference championship and have taken their undefeated record all the way to the No.1 ranking for 1A. The road to perfection continues for the varsity Yellow Jacket basketball team thanks to their most recent wins.

Vaccine clinic in limbo

The e ort to get the COVID-19 vaccine into the arms of more local people may be hampered because of winter weather across the nation. A large-scale vaccination clinic scheduled Saturday at Tri-County Community College is in limbo because winter storms are delaying vaccine deliveries.

SpaceX wins bids to expand area broadband

A company founded by one of the richest men in the world has received federal grant awards to establish high-speed broadband service in rural homes and small businesses throughout North Carolina.  Space Exploration Technologies Corp., better known as SpaceX, received $17.

Town Board nixes zoning change for group projects

The February meeting of Hayesville’s Town Council began by resuming business which had been tabled in their previous meeting. In January, the council had asked for information about building ordinances neighboring towns have in place.
