Local firewood ministry needs individual, group volunteers

Hinton Rural Life Center desperately needs volunteers to pick up donated wood. This typically involves going to the donor’s home, cutting up the downed trees, loading it on a truck and taking it to Hinton’s firewood lot on Hinton Center Road in Hayesville.

The Town of Hayesville will need a replacement councilperson with the resignation of Will Penland during the Tuesday, March 9 meeting.

Fire truck tied to county growth

A requested variance on Clay County's height restriction never made it to a vote at the board of commissioners' meeting on March 4. The way in which the issue ultimately gets resolved could, however, play an important role in the future growth within the county.

Charges not filed yet in hit and run

No charges have been filed in connection to the Feb. 26 hit and run that is believed to have caused the death of Angelica “Angel” Marie Grant. However, the investigation continues and will likely go before a grand jury to determine whether there is cause for an indictment.

Death under investigation

A 50-year-old grandmother and mother of two was discovered dead Saturday morning on the roadside of Highway 64 W, near Fort Hembree Road in Hayesville. Angelica “Angel” Marie Grant, of Dahlonega, Ga.
