Library to close for maintenance

Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville, NC is closing the week of November 1-6 to undergo maintenance on the library’s collection. The purpose of this maintenance is to prepare the library to transition to a new library software beginning early 2022.

Victims of local plane crash ID’d

Authorities have identified the couple who were killed in a plane crash two weeks ago. Dwaine Leon Thompson, 63, and his wife Bobbie Lane Thompson, 57, of Humble, Texas, perished when their 1965 model Beechcraft 35 Bonanza crashed into a mountain on Oct. 3.

Packaging Manufacturer to Invest $47 Million Catawba County Expansion

Raleigh Oct 21, 2021 WestRock Company [NYSE:WRK], a global manufacturer of differentiated paper and packaging solutions, will create 50 new jobs in Catawba County, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company will invest more than $47 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Claremont.

Brasstown Valley to host conference of Southeastern State Park Directors

General Assembly passes measure to rein in a governor's emergency powers

The N.C. House in a concurrence vote passed House Bill 264, Emergency Powers Accountability Act, 66-44, on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Specifically, the legislation requires the governor to get concurrence from the Council of State for an emergency declaration lasting more than seven days.
