Questionable criteria on NC worker ranking begs a deeper dive

North Carolina’s economic health seems strong. Taxes are low, cost of living is below average, and a recent CNBC study gave the state a No. 2 ranking as “Best for Business” because of solid growth, quality workforce, business friendliness, and technology.

Open mic night on the square

  Stories on the Square at the Corner Coffee Shop on the Square in downtown Hayesville will be held Friday October 15th from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Storytellers, writers, poets and musicians are welcome. The event is family-friendly, free and available in-person or via Zoom.

Peak months for deer collision

Motor vehicle crashes that involve deer, always peak during the months of October, November, and December. Deer that are on or near the roadway is a major concern for drivers this time of the year in North Carolina.

Drive for N.C. sports betting bill stalls in House

The N.C. Senate bill that would legalize sports betting on phones and at various venues is stuck in the House, and it may not see action until next year’s session. Senate Bill 688 passed the Senate by a 26-21 vote on Aug. 19.

Learning to live with firearms

The Chatuge Gun Club will present a course titled “BASIC PISTOL”, a 12-hour course demonstrating fundamental handling of handguns and the legal ownership, storage, and use of firearms and information pertaining to the citizen’s right of self-defense will be presented by the Chatuge Gun Club, Inc.
