Stackhouse headed to Hall of Fame

Former Hayesville Yellow Jacket athlete and 1997 Hayesville High School graduate Julie Stackhouse is set to be inducted into the North Carolina High School Track and Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held Saturday, Feb. 1 in Winston Salem.

Géraud Barralon performs in honor of CD release

Géraud Barralon will perform a concert in honor of the release of his new CD, Trace du Poète on Saturday, Dec. 21. Free admission. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., concert is from 7-8 p.m. at the Peacock Performing Arts Center in Hayesville. Barralon comes from Ardèche in the Rhône-Alpes region of France.

Catamounts Visit Xavier on Wednesday

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina returns to action on Wednesday as the Catamounts journey to Cincinnati to face Xavier at 6:30 p.m. The Catamounts and Musketeers battle in front of a national television audience on FS1 with Alex Faust and Tim Miles calling the action.

Former Jacket now world champ

The 2019 Scottish Masters Athletics Heavy Events World Championship, often referred to as the Highland Games, was dominated by a former Hayesville High athlete.  Clay County native Randy McClure competed in nine events during the championship games held in Tucson, Ariz. Nov. 2-3.

Georgia doctors found guilty

J. Michael Gowder Former Union General Hospital CEO John Michael “Mike” Gowder and Dr. James Lanier Heaton were found guilty Thursday in federal court on charges they conspired to illegally distribute prescription drugs on a massive scale.

Renowned suicide expert to speak at Western Carolina

Thomas W. Joiner Jr Cullowhee – Western Carolina University will welcome Thomas W. Joiner Jr., one of the world’s leading authorities on suicide, to speak as part of its doctor of psychology program’s speaker series. Joiner’s talk, “Why People Die By Suicide,” will be presented at 6 p.m.
