Former resident charged in Hiawassee burglary

A former Hayesville resident has been arrested in connection to a Nov. 3 burglary of the Hiawassee Antique Mall where a “large amount of jewelry,” was taken according to a press release from Hiawassee Police Chief Paul Smith. Smith reported that at 4 a.m.

Lloyd receives the Emma Cline Moore Award

Hayesville takes down rival

The Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team welcomed Murphy to Hayesville Middle School Monday, Nov. 18 for the third game of the season. Hayesville coach Tammy Dills and her team had a full week to prepare for the game and the extra work paid off.

The former Yellow Jacket Café’s days of being a restaurant are likely over because the building will soon be home to four apartments. Hayesville’s Board of Adjustment granted a variance and a special use permit to building owner Henry Brenner during their regular meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14.

“She just wanted to learn how to skate.” Former DEA agent and United Methodist pastor, Dr. Barry Steiner Ball shared the personal encounter which changed his life’s mission. “We would go in houses at all hours,” he explained.

Old town hall moves to new location

A small piece of history traveled down Herbert and Main Streets on Sunday, Nov. 10 when the late 1930s Hayesville Town Hall was taken to a new location below the Old Jail Museum. The building was donated to Historic Hayesville Inc.

Former Jacket now world champ

The 2019 Scottish Masters Athletics Heavy Events World Championship, often referred to as the Highland Games, was dominated by a former Hayesville High athlete.  Clay County native Randy McClure competed in nine events during the championship games held in Tucson, Ariz. Nov. 2-3.

County Manager resigns

Clay County Manager Mark Pullium resigned Thursday, Nov. 7 following a closed session of the board of commissioners. The resignation went into effect immediately. Director of Health and Human Services Debbie Mauney has been named interim county manager.

Riverbenders to perform Friday night concert at Folk School

The RiverBenders will perform a Friday night concert at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. The show will be held in the Keith House. Admission is free, donations are appreciated.
