Former jail captain indicted

By Becky Long Publisher   A former captain of the Clay County Detention Center was indicted by the grand jury May 23 on allegations of embezzling money from a fund designated for inmates.

Storm claims Haywood Co. senior’s life

Weekend brings remembrance and celebration

Women stranded in swift river currents are safe and sound

By Joyce Portik Clay County Fire & Rescue   On Monday, May 20 two women were enjoying a day of kayaking when they came across a tree in a section of the swift running Hiawassee River in Clay County. Unfortunately, that tree flipped both women into the cold river.
