Rallying to help young woman after heart surgeries

By Lorrie Ross Staff Writer   We often think people who need heart surgery may be folks who are a little older or perhaps someone with a congenital heart condition. Not so for Zera Chastain, who is about to have her third heart surgery at only 39 years old.

HMS students in the spotlight

Service pays tribute to war dead

By Becky Long Publisher   The crowd attending Monday’s Memorial Day Service on the Hayesville square were reminded that the holiday is more than a time for cookouts, but rather a time of remembrance and a time to pay respect to the men and women who died while serving our country.

Memorial Day Service

A Memorial Day service will be held at the Veterans Memorial on the Hayesville town square, Monday, May 29. Service starts at 11 a.m. The traditional ceremony is hosted by Allison-Bristol VFW Post 6812 with assistance from the George Lee American Lee Post 532.

North Carolina’s First Lady Kristin Cooper visited Clay County on the 93rd stop of her 100-county tour, stopping by Rob Withrow’s Smoke in the Mountains Pottery in Brasstown on May 17. Withrow, who has been creating his pottery for nearly three decades and teaches his art at the John C.
