Small Business Saturday on November 27 is a national promotion but is an important  day to begin holiday shopping to support our local businesses. On average every dollar spent at a small business provides 67 cents to stay in our local community.

School board makes face masks optional

By a 3-1 vote, the Clay County Board of Education chose to eliminate its face mask requirement for Clay County Schools during a special called meeting on Monday in Hayesville. The ruling became effective on Tuesday.

Collaborative antibody clinic a 'life saver'

Clay County ambulances were sometimes sitting at hospitals for several hours at a time during the month of September, waiting for a bed to open up for a new patient.

Five Year Wildfire Anniversary

Five years ago, Clay County’s mountains were burning. For several weeks, the air was thick with smoke as flames consumed tens of thousands of acres in western North Carolina. It was a frightening time for area residents, but also a time when they came together.
