CCCRA’s free Friday Summer Concert Series is the place to be this summer. A record crowd of over 800 folks enjoyed a night on the aquare with Run Katie Run at the last concert. The series continues this Friday at 7 p.m.

Family and colleagues prepared for Wednesday’s funeral of Cherokee County Detention Center Transport Officer Francisco Flattes, 56, of Hayesville, who was shot and killed while taking an inmate to a medical appointment on Monday, June 30.

Babe opened a new “neighborhood market” on Tusquittee Road close to the bridge crossing the Hiawassee River and next to Qualla Road. The store was popular during the1950s and beyond until new owners converted the building into apartments.
