Collins capitalizes in Brasstown

Capitalizing on the misfortune of front row starters Jensen Ford and Dale McDowell, Colbert, Ga. native Kenny Collins assumed the point on the sixth circuit and proved to be the class of the field in capturing the $4,053 top prize Tuesday, July 27 at Tri County Racetrack.

Ladies golf league keeps growing

Call it cabin fever after five rainy days in a row or the love of golf, but the Mountain Harbour Ladies Golf Association is reaching its stride with 24 ladies anxious to play and reconnect with each other. The group was largest to date.

Upcoming pickleball clinic

Mountain Lakes Pickleball will be providing beginner level skill clinics for anyone in the area who is interested in learning to play the game. The clinics will be held on the outdoor courts at the Clay County Sports Complex on Thursday, July 29 and Thursday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m.

Jeremy Payne took first place in the Hiawassee River Bass Club July tournament held on Lake Nottley. Josh Cook came in second and earned the big fish honors with a 5.55 pound largemouth bass. Here's how the top anglers fared overall: First place - Jeremy Payne - five fish - 13.25 pounds.

Young Harris Athletics launches Mountain Lion Club

Young Harris College Athletics has released a new Mountain Lion Club program that will start with the 2021-2022 athletics season. The Mountain Lion Club will serve as a year-round fundraising initiative for the department.

Deal edges out Ledford in Brasstown

With rain soaking the area on the morning of Friday, July 9, the chances of fans seeing racing at Tri County Racetrack looked to be slim to none. However, for the most part, the scattered showers in the area steered clear of the Brasstown Bullring and the night's events went off as planned.

Trash to Treasure Final Clearance

HHI volunteers must close the 2021 fundraiser with clearance prices located at 74 Sanderson Street in downtown Hayesville. Discounts begin on Thursday July 15 and will continue through Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when the sale event ends.

Boone running coach finishes first in 53rd annual Grandfather Mountain Marathon

For the fifth time, the Boone, N.C., running coach finished first in the Grandfather Mountain Marathon, part of the Saturday, July 10, festivities of the 2021 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Masland, 40, finished with a time of 2:48:37.
