Hayesville faces conference foes

With the season winding down, Hayesville High School’s track and field team members headed to Bryson City Wednesday, May 26 to match-up against the Murphy Bulldogs and the host Swain County.

Stewart, Jackets open field with perfect game

Hayesville’s Yellow Jacket baseball team is hotter than the rising summer-like temperatures settling in on Clay County. On Thursday, May 27, Jacket Nation entered the new baseball facility to watch their team battle Cherokee for the first games played at the Yellow Jackets’ new hive.

HMS adds SMC championship

The Smoky Mountain Conference held its middle school track and field championship Saturday, May 22 in Murphy.

Jackets ranked second in state

Usually, yellow jackets are the ones being swatted, but on the baseball diamond, it’s the Jackets who are becoming the kings of swat. Hayesville’s varsity team improved their record to 5-0 with a 9-o win over Hiwassee Dam Tuesday, May 11 followed by a 10-1 victory against  Murphy Friday, May 14.

Stamey goes out on podium

On Tuesday, May 11, Hayesville golfers Jala Stamey and Madison Logan competed in the 1A/2A state championship at Pinehurst Golf Course. The pair represented HHS well with Stamey tying for third and Logan tying for sixth.

Baseball doubles up on wins

Hayesville’s varsity baseball team hit the diamond last week in pursuit of a Smoky Mountain Conference title. The team had one game last year before COVID-19 shut down sports. This season’s schedule was also re-worked so the Jackets can play their home games on their new field.

Lady Jackets shutout

Struggles continue for Hayesville’s varsity softball team. On Tuesday, April 20, the Lady Jackets lost a home game to Swain County by the final of 7-0. The scoreless streak continued for Hayesville in Hiwassee Dam Friday, April 23 with a 22-0 loss.

No. 12 Mountain Lions, Chung win Peach Belt titles

The 12th-ranked Young Harris College men's golf team led by medalist Peter Chung shot an even-par 288 Sunday (April 18) afternoon in the final round of the Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship to win the event for the first time in program history.
