WCU held its first scrimmage of 2021 preseason camp

Western Carolina held its first scrimmage of the 2021 preseason fall camp on Saturday morning on the turf at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. Early morning fog gave way to summertime temperatures as the team worked out for two and a half hours.

Sports betting legislation passes second Senate committee

A bill that would legalize sports betting across North Carolina has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee. After waiting its turn during this legislative session, Senate Bill 688 is quickly making progress. It initially passed the Senate Finance Committee on Aug. 4.

Catamount Volleyball Opens 2021 Preseason Monday

 After reporting back to campus on Sunday, the Western Carolina volleyball team held its first official practice for the 2021 season on Monday in the Ramsey Center as the team began its quest for a Southern Conference title.

Two Catfish State Records Broken

Officials with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission just certified two catfish state records that were broken within one week of each other in July. Rocky Baker of Four Oaks broke the blue catfish record on July 10 and Taner Rudolph of Hubert broke the channel catfish record on July 17.

Sponsors, players sought for scholarship tournament

This year’s Bethel-Guidry College Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 at Mountain Harbour Golf Club in Hayesville. This event raises funds for deserving high school graduates from Clay County, N.C. and Towns County, Ga.

Hatton to lead Mountain Lion women's lacrosse program
