COVID cases continue to decline

Despite what you may have seen online, Clay County has not had a recent spike in COVID-19 cases, according to the Clay County Health Department. Clay County Health Director Clarissa Rogers said there are four active positive cases of the virus in the county as of Tuesday.

Commissioners approve $19.8 million budget for '21-22

The Clay County Board of Commissioners have approved a budget of just under $20 million for the 2021-22 fiscal year. County Manager Debbie Mauney presented the details of the $19,820,418 budget during a public hearing on Thursday, June 17 in Hayesville.

Town Council passes reduced 2021-22 budget

Like death and taxes, one of life’s certainties is that the cost of government always increases. The Hayesville Town Council turned that myth on its head Monday night by passing a 2021-2022 budget more than $24,300 smaller than the previous year.

Woman dies in auto-pedestrian accident

A 22-year-old Hayesville woman was struck and killed in an auto-pedestrian accident Saturday night in Towns County, Ga. Alexandria Leigh Richbourg was attempting to cross five lanes of traffic on U.S. Hwy 76 around 11:30 p.m. after visiting the Sand Bar & Grille.
