Local officers train for active school shooter

Staff Reports   On Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 15 and 17 officers with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office are participating in rapid deployment exercises for active shooter response training at Hayesville High School.

Hayesville Town Council sets hearing on short-term rentals

By Lorraine Bennett Staff Writer   Hayesville Town Council voted Monday to hold a public hearing on a short term rental ordinance at 6:30 p.m. before the next regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 11. Article 1800 on short term rentals has already passed the Hayesville Planning and Zoning Board.

Storm brings strong winds, downed trees

By Lorrie Ross Staff Writer   Bad storms are not unusual in the summertime, even in the mountains of western North Carolina. Yet, the storm which hit Clay County and the surrounding area on Monday, Aug. 7 blasted through with dangerous lightning and violent winds.

Voters can get IDs from county BOE

Staff Reports   Registered voters who do not have an acceptable identification card for voting in North Carolina can now go to their county board of elections office to get a free ID, according a press release to the state Elections Board.

Civil Rights Amendments plaque presented to county

By Becky Long Publisher   Clay County Commissioners were presented a framed document of Amendments to the U.S. Constitution during their monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 3. The presenters were Ron Lewis and Dr. David Streater.
