Health officials emphasize quarantine as COVID cases climb

Beyond vaccinations, public health officials also are emphasizing another important means of slowing the spread of COVID-19: quarantine.
Clay County pushed near 100 active cases during the past week and also recorded its 22nd and 23rd COVID-related deaths during the pandemic.

Firefighters save local home

On Thursday, August 26, Clay County Fire and Rescue was paged to a structure fire on Qualla Rd around 12:19 p.m. Upon arrival, heavy smoke was apparent from the home. Crews geared up and made entry into the structure.

N.C. Senate passes anti-indoctrination bill after emotional debate

A bill that would prohibit public schools from promoting controversial viewpoints related to Critical Race Theory cleared the N.C. Senate on Thursday. Debate about the bill featured rare personal attacks among senators.

Renovations begin on Old Town Hall

After a year of fundraising efforts by Historic Hayesville Inc. volunteers, lumber has been delivered to begin construction and rehab of the Old Hayesville Town Hall as a small classroom.
